Fresh Fest is here and we could not be more excited! Produce in Louisiana is most colorful and abundant during the summer months. Every year during June and July, we take the time to highlight a different agricultural product each week at the market. With cooking demos, kids activities, recipe cards, and live music happening, it’s a celebration you won’t want to miss!

Understanding the seasonality of crops is essential to truly eating local. Most places in the United States have fruits and vegetables that only grow at certain times of the year. When and where each variety of crops grows depends on the climate and soil conditions. The same reason why you never see apples or bananas at the Red Stick Farmers Market, is the same reason that you are able to enjoy tomatoes, beans, okra, and more at their peak during the summer.

To savor and enjoy these crisp and refreshing flavors in Louisiana year-round, freezing and canning fruits and vegetables is the way to go. By purchasing local food in season and preserving it, eating a diet full of local variety becomes more possible!

Join us every Saturday this summer for lots of fresh produce and family fun!

This year’s themes are listed below:

  • Blueberry Bash (June 1)
