Fall is Coming…

It’s that time of year when you keep saying to yourself, seriously, will the heat ever end? Well, local farmers are thinking the same thing. This summer was particularly difficult for local fruits and vegetables as we endured both weeks of endless rain and then extreme temperatures-neither good for farming! The good news is that the end is in sight. Farmers have been busy planting for the fall and we will begin to see to see a new crop of veggies by the end of September. According to local farmer Eric Morrow, we can expect sweet corn, green beans, green onions, tomatoes, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, cabbage, eggplant, potatoes, mustard greens and peas in a few weeks. So, be sure to pick up the last of summer’s heat-loving melons, okra, basil and japapenos while they last. Before long, we’ll be surrounded by pumpkins!
